Infinity Blockchain Ventures (IBV) proudly presents to you the 2nd edition of our annual hackathon, BLOCKATHON Edition 2. A plethora of opportunities for tech savvy to boast their skills, capitalise on tech trends, both new and old, and get their talent acquainted and appreciated by experts from the industry.
BLOCKATHON aims at identifying programming talents, triggering innovative ideas and bringing SEA to move forward to be the Blockchain hub of Asia.
In 2020, BLOCKATHON Edition 2 will be held from June to November in the high-octane tech hubs of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, and Hanoi.

Smart Cities is more than just a buzzword; the emergence of this term calls for technological solutions to maintain sustainability and enhanced quality of life in this day and age, particularly in congested cities. With smart cities on the rise, governments have to make shift and adopt smart solutions for higher efficiency and better administration in line with the objectives of Industry 4.0.
“The 2020 version of BLOCKATHON is seeking solutions for Smart Cities developed by talented programmers whom we recognise as THE CITY TRANSFORMER.

Using Blockchain technology and other technologies such as AI, Big Data, etc to develop a solution DEMO that can be applied to solve real-life problems in areas of Smart City, Supply Chain and Fintech.

48-hour virtual hack-run
- Participant teams will work on selected challenges under the mentorship of our strong network of experts in technology and innovation, business and entrepreneurship.
- 6 best teams (2 teams for each location) will be selected to compete in the Grand Final to get the championship

1. Requirements for acceptance and rules of participation
- Registering for the hackathon is entirely free of charge and is open to teams of 1 to 5 people per team (5 people max per team).
- Teams and individuals wishing to sign up for the hackathon must complete the online registration form at https://infinityblockathon.com/register indicating the personal details of the individual or of each team member. Each individual participant or team member must abide by the event regulations and grant consent to Infinity Blockchain Ventures for the use and handling of all participants’ personal information.
- Any violations with regards to the event regulations may result in disqualification.
- Personal Information shall include but not be limited to participant’s personal information, video, recordings and other images. The personal information shall only be accessed by Infinity Blockchain Ventures and be processed in accordance with the relevant local legislation.
- All members of each team must ensure that all personal information provided upon registration online is true and accurate. The personal details provided by each member will be verified before teams are admitted to the competition prior to the start of the event.
- Participants agree to unconditionally accept any and all decisions made by the Hackathon organizers with regards to the event organization. Any disputes on the event organization shall remain at the sole discretion of the hackathon organizers.
- The teams competing should include a mix of developers, designers and marketing specialists. Hackathon participants may only be members of one team. Any participant found to be in more than one team shall be in violation of the event regulations.
- Each team must have a name and logo as chosen by its members. Team names must not be connected in any way with the names of companies or registered trademarks or use expressions that incite violence or are discriminatory, obscene, or represent any form of defamation. Failure to comply with this will be considered a violation of the event regulations.
- If any information provided about a team or team member during online registration is found to be incomplete and/or inaccurate, this shall be considered a violation of the event regulations and the entire team shall be removed from the competition.
- There shall be no changes made to teams once the competition begins. If even just one member of a team leaves the competition, the entire team will be rendered ineligible to proceed further in the competition.
- By accepting these Regulations and participating in the hackathon, each participant undertakes and agrees that for the entire duration of the competition, to make use of the facilities in which the competition is to be held and any materials and equipment provided by Infinity Blockchain Ventures with the utmost care and diligence and to comply fully with the rules of conduct and safety established by Infinity Blockchain Ventures. Event participants will be held liable for any damage caused to people or property.
- Hackathon participants hereby acknowledge that event participation is free of charge and that participation does not entail any right to compensation of any kind or to reimbursement of any expenses incurred.
Hackathon participants hereby accept not to disclose any information which would be considered as confidential information during the event to any person. These provisions will not apply to any information which has become publicly available other than through the breach of Hackathon participants, information lawfully possessed by the Hackathon participants before the disclosure hereunder, information obtained from a third party who is free to disclose it. The confidentiality obligation shall survive after the event.
2. Concept to be developed
All teams must develop a concept in keeping with the nature of the competition. The concept to be addressed by each team admitted, throughout the continuous 48-hour duration of the competition, will be to use Blockchain and other technologies (AI, Big Data, IoT, etc. in creative, innovative ways to develop a product feature that can be used in a range of fields such as traceability, supply chain sensor, public value, community, personal identification, logistic, fintech, etc.
3. The panel of judges
Composition
The projects executed by the teams for the competition will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges who are representatives of major players in the ecosystem.
Judging
The final decisions of the judges are to be based on the following parameters: Concept, Design, Development, and Presentation. The panel will assign a score to each parameter, which will then determine the ranking of each participating team.
The winner of each local hackathon will be the one (1) team with the highest total scores. In the event of a tie, the Hackathon organizer reserves the right to make the final decision in selecting the winners.
The three (3) winners and three (3) runner-ups (one (1) runner-up of each location) of each local hackathon will then be invited to compete head to head in order to determine the winner of the overall championship.
4. Prizes
- The top-6 winning teams in hack-run will be awarded $700/team.
The championship winner in the Grand Finale Hackathon will receive the following prizes: $5,000 in cash + opportunity to win Canada trip worth $5,000 (subjected to tax & GST)
5. Intellectual property rights, guarantees, and release of responsibility
By participating in the Hackathon and accepting these Regulations, each participant hereby:
- declares that each prototype or mock-up presented is an original work and in no way violates, in whole or in part, the intellectual or industrial property rights of others and releases Infinity Blockchain Ventures, Infinity Blockchain Group and its partners from any and all responsibility, liability, or request for compensation for damages made by any third party;
- acknowledges that each prototype or mock-up presented is the property of the team, and takes full responsibility for ensuring such rights of ownership, intellectual property and originality is within the limits of the law (e.g. filing of patents and other such registrations as appropriate);
- acknowledges that any publication by Infinity Blockchain Ventures and Infinity Blockchain Group of the prototype or mock-up on web sites or social media will result in the same being visible to the public and that Infinity Blockchain Ventures and Infinity Blockchain Group assume no responsibility for any use and/or abuse of the idea and/or any development of the idea and/or related project by any party coming into contact with said idea online or on social media and hereby waives any right to demand compensation for damages from Infinity Blockchain Ventures and Infinity Blockchain Group for any reason.
Eligibility:
- How old do I need to be to participate in Blockathon? At least 18
- Do my teammates have to be from the same country? No, but there must be at least one (1) Vietnamese citizen in each team.
- Can I participate in Blockathon if I am abroad? Yes
- Can I apply to Blockathon if I have a non-tech background? Yes
Participating:
How many members are allowed in one team? 1-5
Can I get help from the organizing team to find teammates if I do not have friends who are interested? The Blockathon supports contestants to find teammates through uploading posts in Blockathon Facebook group.
How do I know if I have registered successfully for Blockathon? A confirmation email with registration information will be sent over to your email.
Can I change my details after registering Blockathon? Yes
How can I get the latest updates about Blockathon? Through our Facebook Page, website and through the email that you have registered to Blockathon.
If I have a question for Blockathon, who can I ask? Send you questions to our email, our Facebook Page, website or leave them under our Facebook posts or our group for contestants.
How are my intellectual property rights insured? Please refer to Blockathon Rules
Application phase:
- For the application, what do I need to submit? Team information, login information and your personal information.
- Do I need to have an idea of my product when I register to the Blockathon? NO. Before the hack-run day, we will organize Industry info-seminars to help the contestants have an overview of the contest’s three fields. In the hack-run day, we will assign a topic so that you can base it on developing your product.
- What is the deadline to apply? August 28th, 2020
Training:
- Do contestants receive any training programs? Yes
- Are the training series in business or technical? Both
- Where will the training sessions be held? Offline and Online
- If I cannot participate in training sessions, will I have recorded videos to review? Yes
- Can I choose my mentor? Organizers will arrange suitable mentors for each team
Hack-run:
- How much time do I have for coding? 42 hours
- What support do I have during the hack-run? Technical and Business mentorship
- What is the format of the pitching solution? The pitching will be held under the format of a showcase. The judges will go around the showcase and each team has 3 minutes to pitch. If the judges are interested in your product, you have 2 minutes to answer the questions of the judges. 8-10 excellent teams are selected to the demo round, which representative of each team has 5 minutes to pitch.
- Which language do I need to use in pitching? Slides are required to be in English. We accept either Vietnamese or English but you are encouraged to use English in pitching.
- What are the judging criteria? Concept, Design, Development, and Presentation
- What is the prize of the winner in this round? The winner has $1,000 in cash.
- How can I get my prize if I am a winner? We will follow up and give you more details.
Grand Finale:
When will I receive confirmation if my team is selected or not for the Grand Finale? Results are announced in the hack-run days
How many teams are selected for the Grand Finale? 2 teams from each site, 6 in totals.
Where does the Grand Finale take place? HCMC
Which language do I need to use in pitching? Slides are required to be in English. We accept either Vietnamese or English but you are encouraged to use English in pitching.
Who are the judges in this round? To be updated.
What is the prize of the winner in this round? $10,000 including $5,000 in cash and a trip to Canada.
